Today! 10 am, Benrardo Winery

The Rancho Bernardo Historical Society’s Speakers Series will present a free program highlighting the Old California Missions of Baja and Alta California on Wednesday, June 18 at 10am at the History Museum in the Bernardo Winery. See all at www.RBHistoricalSociety.org

Speakers Max Kurillo and David Kier will present a power point presentation focusing on the history of the 48 Missions from 1697-1834. In 1697 Jesuit priests established the first of a chain of 21 Missions which eventually spanned Alta California from San Diego to San Francisco. In addition, 27 Missions were built in Baja Mexico. This program will share the "real history" of the Missions, including tidbits of trivia such as which Mission kept peacocks as pets and which Mission was the "original" in Alta California.

Max Kurillo and David Kier are both well known historians and authors. Max is an expert in the El Camino Real, the historic road which linked the Missions and is sometimes called the "Royal Road" or "The King’s Highway". David’s specialty is the history of Baja, Mexico.
