This comprehensive 50-hour course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Boards PTCB exam. Content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names, dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, and inventory control.

Now is a great time to enter the field because health care jobs continue to be popular. In fact, aol.com noted that health care has grown twice as fast as the national economy over the past few years.

In its latest projections, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the following:

“The health care and social assistance industry is expected to generate the ‘largest number of jobs, 5.6 million, at an annual rate of 3.0 percent’ between now and 2020 - the most dramatic growth compared to any sector in the country.”

SDSU’s College of Extended Studies has programs that will qualify students to enter the health care field in as little as six months. These courses are hands-on and teach practical and needed skills, and are scheduled for working adults and taught by industry experts.
