SDSU Hosts Veterans and Military Open House

SDSU will host a Veterans and Military Open House from 8-10:30 am Friday, August 8 in the SDSU Extended Studies Center that is free to all veterans and military spouses.

SDSU's College of Extended Studies is hosting the event that will feature numerous information booths for the more than 20 certificate programs it offers year-round that are approved for veterans’ education and military spouse benefits.

The College offers certificate programs to the military in fields including: construction occupations, educational services, financial services, health care, hospitality, human resources, meeting and event planning, and the technology industry.

“San Diego has a high percentage of veterans. We want to put them to work. If we don’t have projects for them, we absolutely promote both our veterans and students at San Diego State to other companies,” said Elizabeth Perez-Halperin, founder/CEO at GC Green who was recently honored at a White House Champion of Change event as a Veteran Advancing Clean Energy and Climate Security.

Perez-Halperin has also been an assistant instructor at SDSU’s College of Extended Studies.

SDSU is an approved provider for Veterans Education Benefits, the MyCAA Scholarship Program, and the GI Bill. Classes are available either online or on-site at SDSU. The online classes are offered anytime, anyplace throughout the world on a 24/7 basis wherever computer access is available. Most SDSU College of Extended Studies on-site classes are held in the evenings, to better accommodate work and family schedules.

Military spouse Jackie Diaz is a prime example of what can transpire. She used military benefits to enroll in the contract management certificate program.

“The classes helped me gain a basic understanding of contract management. I learned a lot. I liked my instructors and I absolutely enjoyed attending classes on the SDSU campus,” she said.

The Aug. 8 open house will offer several benefits to attendees:

• Enjoy complimentary breakfast and beverages
• Network with industry professionals and explore career areas
• Meet and network with the Joan and Art Barron Veterans Center staff
• Meet and network with the College of Extended Studies military representative advisor

The event is $25 for non-veterans and includes complimentary parking. For more information, email cesveterans@mail.sdsu.edu, call (619) 594-3047 or visit www.neverstoplearning.net/veteranevent.
