SDSU Class Focuses on Media Sales and Promotion

There are numerous benefits and challenges involving a career in media sales and promotion, which is why SDSU’s College of Extended Studies will offer “Media Sales and Promotion” as part of its Professional Certificate in Marketing and Media program Wednesdays, Feb. 19-March 19, 6-9 pm.

In this course, students will study the building blocks to a sale such as research, promotion, and other collateral areas while understanding what the client means and needs for promotion. They also will learn the current and future state of the industry via lectures and panel discussions with practicing professionals. Key topics include: the fundamental components of sales, the keys to successful sales, understanding what the client wants and needs, and where the industry is going.

Instructor Chuck Dunning is the vice president and general manager of television station San Diego 6 -The CW.

“One of the most important parts of a business is the generation of revenue, and sales is a completely unlicensed field,” Dunning said. “Anyone can call themselves an expert and I don’t believe there’s enough time and energy spent devoted to media sales. This is why I think the Media and Marketing program is beneficial – it gives a person grounding in the field of media and marketing, which is paramount to a business succeeding.”

The San Diego Ad Club and SDSU's College of Extended Studies have come together to offer this Professional Certificate in Marketing & Media program. It's designed for early- to mid-career marketing, advertising, public relations, media, and sales professionals, as well as anyone who wants to enter these exciting careers.
